The week of preparation for the quilt show was an extremely eye opening experience. I have watched all year as the quilt show committee met and prepared for this event. Sitting on the outside looking at the show does not even prepare a person for all of the logistics which must be worked out and put into place. When you look at the show, from a single person’s perspective, it seems that “why didn’t they give me more attention, if I am asked to pull a quilt, or put it into a category, or follow the rules, why are they picking on me?” As I watched the judges go over the quilts, and spend the time necessary to give not only good comments, but also give comments which would help a quilter improve, my respect for not only the judges, but all of the small details which go into putting on a show. Some of you were limited as to number of quilts and or number of judged quilts. This was due to the high number of quilts entered and the number of entrants. I looked at all of the quilts, and saw the beauty that you have created. What a shame it would have been if each member who wished to enter a quilt could not have had the opportunity. My kudos and commendations go to the planning skills of our quilt show chair, Judy Taylor. She, with her committee, managed all of the details of the physical layout of the venue, and also dealt with all of the people problems in a very professional manner. My congratulations and gratitude to Deb Nagle and all the volunteers who helped made the Small Quilt Auction a great success. Thanks to everyone who made and donated a small quilt. What a tremendous event! My kudos also to the many, many volunteers who helped to make this show “fantastic”! Without the volunteers there would not have been a show. My gratitude to each one of you board members who worked such long hours, and kept everything going so smoothly. You each stepped up and gave and gave of your time and energy. I am going to challenge you, the membership, to volunteer to serve in some of these areas next year. What a treat to work with you, the volunteers. Until you have been in the volunteer room, served as a white glove person, or helped in any capacity, you have no idea of the work involved to make everything “happen”. As you can see, I am so proud to be a member of this Guild. I am proud to be working with this State Board, and the Quilt Show board. I am humbled by the skills necessary to put this show on the road, and make it not only a great success, but one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. I also need to remind you of the Ricky Tims Super Seminar which will be in December. Please send in your registration forms to the AQG office, and we will bundle them and send them in for you. My registration has already been sent in. Gail Piggott |
