Director: Traveling Teachers

Joann Lang

Joann was born and raised in Montana on a small farm with four brothers and one sister.  She was the first person in her mom and dad’s family to graduate from college. After earning her degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation, she taught high school in El Paso, TX for three years. Then she returned to Montana and taught PE for four years before moving to Missouri to pursue her Masters Degree in Recreation Administration.  That is where she met her husband and was married 6 weeks later. They have traveled the “world” for 47 years, 22 years as a career military family. After four children, 22 moves, and 33 years teaching school she has found her home in Phoenix for the last 16 years.

Despite loosing her arm in a car accident in 2013, Joann is still an avid golfer, camper, and quilter.  But it is her grandchildren, Carter Jahn (3) and Sadie Ann (16 mos) - finally arriving when Joann was 76 years old - that makes every day exciting!

Joann has been a member of AQG for 10 years as Charity Chairman, Program chairman and Liaison to Luke Air Force base. Joann was selected as the Arizona Quilters Guild Member of the Year for 2013 in recognition of the various volunteer activities she enjoys so much. Perhaps the most fun was being asked to serve on the AQG Board for the last two years as the Traveling Teacher Director.
