Red Rock Quilters Feb Chapter Report

Many of our snowbirds returned this month and we are busy enlisting them as volunteers for the many activities happening this year!!! Our new Board took over this month and is working to make our meetings shorter and more effective. Our Program Chairs have some exciting instructors lined up for us.

Our Show and Tell was amazing, showing all the time people found to quilt over the holidays. Makes some of us feel guilty that we aren’t as prolific … These photos are a small example of the beautiful quilts that were shown. Some were gifts, some were from classes taken, and others were a commission for a departed loved one or a wedding anniversary. The themes were varied all the way from Harry Potter to a Breast Cancer walk to Quilts of Valor. It is always a delight to see the talent in our group.

Our program for the month was a talk and trunk show by Barb J on the African Influence on American Quilting. Barb is a member of AQG and the Mavericks and Delightful Quilters guilds. She shared a personal passion for the history of African quilting, sewing and pattern development. Obviously, she has studied this topic for a while and has a wealth of information. Her trunk show was eye-popping. The photos show a small portion of the quilts she shared. Many of us walked away with inspiration to attempt a story quilt of our own, to cut into some of the special international fabrics we own or just to keep striving for more creativity in our work. Special thanks to Barb for coming to Sedona from Scottsdale in the winter!!!!

Finally, the 22nd annual quilt show presented by the Quilter’s Store in Sedona is being held at the Sedona library until February 25. Thirteen of our members have quilts or wearable art in the show. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and see this amazing array of quilting.
