September President’s Letter

Can you believe summer is almost over and fall is knocking on the door?  Doesn’t it want to make you start cooking comfort food and enjoy the smells of cinnamon, brown sugar, apple, pumpkin, vanilla and so many more that trigger cherished memories? Fall décor themes are everywhere, especially the quilt shops!  Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been out shopping and was inspired to get my fall scented candles burning!

We moved to Arizona from Northern California almost two years ago.  I’m getting settled into the climate difference and loving the rugged mountains here.  Decades ago, one of my first crafts to explore was oil painting, I spent four years taking art lessons and learning to paint landscapes in Montana.  Now I’m thrilled to be learning how to do this with fabric!  Wow!

There are so many talented Quilters in AQG, I am in awe of their abilities and how they approach learning new techniques and modifying them to suit their tastes.  I’m soaking up as much of this talented quilting community as I can, there just isn’t enough time in the day to do it all!

The AQG Board has been busy planning the Fall Chapter Chair and Fall Business Meetings, gathering Member of the Year nomination’s, and discussing so many things we’d like to do.  AQG, like other non-profit organizations is hindered by the triple constraints: time, money, and people.   Sometimes we have no money but have the time, and other times we have money but not enough time or people.  AQG needs volunteers to help grow our membership and offerings, that’s why we need volunteers to share their talents and learn something new along the way.  Please consider joining the AQG Board to help, we need the following positions filled: Quilt Show Director, Traveling Teacher Director, and Promotions Director.   Please contact me if you or someone you know would like to join our board and help us grow!

Happy Fall!

Laura Niemann, AQG President
